NAMED SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
2024-2025

BAILEY SCHOLARSHIP

Bry Brannan (1).JPEG

Bry is an M.Div. student at Iliff. They live in the Clear Creek Watershed, outside of Denver, CO, with their spouse. They returned back home to the Rocky Mountains after over a decade of faith community organizing along the Salish Sea and across the Pacific Northwest. For many years, they worked at the Church Council of Greater Seattle, focused on immigrant accompaniment, living wage economic justice, and ecumenical and interfaith movement building. During this time, they had the good fortune of accompanying University Christian Church – primarily working with two steadfast community leaders, Lanny and Rosemary – in the congregation’s commitment to “advance compassionate services and justice systems” for marginalized families.

Bry’s vocation continues to unfold as they find ways to accompany congregations as they discern how their land and buildings can serve place-based flourishing and intergenerational resilience. The example of University Christian Church creating a Legacy Foundation and transforming a parking lot into 133 units of affordable housing is the Good News they want to bring to life! Starting this fall, they will do their year-long residency/internship with Juniper Formation UCC where their mission is to “prophetically reimagine the Church from the margins.” Bry will facilitate a Community of Practice for congregations who want to examine their congregation’s land stories as a way to reckon with racism and colonization on a journey towards relationship and repair.

Patricia Leong (2).jpeg

Patricia lives in Tucson, AZ, with her husband and child. She graduated from Iliff with an M.Div. on June 6, 2025. She is a serious athlete turned math teacher turned parent turned seminary student. She has learned to take life as it comes, and she is curious to see where it takes her next! In her spare time, Patricia loves to crochet, play video games, garden, and read.

BROWN SCHOLARSHIP

Teila Creekmore (3).JPG

TEILA CREEKMORE

(CST/M.Div. student)

Teila is from Missouri and currently pursuing her M.Div. in Interfaith Chaplaincy at Claremont School of Theology. She is also in the final process of pursuing ordination with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She serves as the Minister of Spiritual Formation at a local church in her community. In the past, Teila has served as a hospital chaplain at a level 1 trauma center and as a youth director. She hopes to continue serving in chaplain roles or to use her chaplain skills within other ministry settings in the future. She has fallen in love with the ministry of chaplaincy and really feel connected to Robert Dykstra’s image of pastoral care as a Midwife.  She sees the focus of her ministry “on being with [all] people in travail, on using our skills and personhood to focus on the unique context and process of the patients and families we are privileged to attend,” while at the same time “God does the miraculous work of delivering new life in its myriad forms.” Teila strives to come alongside, to provide compassionate care, and to “reflect God’s ongoing involvement in the care and healing” of those she encounters, while respecting and embracing their own belief/value system.

In the day-to-day, you can find her snuggling with her beloved dog, Koko. She loves to be outside as much as possible, spending time walking, paddle-boarding, doing arts and crafts, reading (for fun), or simply enjoying nature!

DRISKILL SCHOLARSHIP

Shannon Marckx (2).JPG

Shannon is an M.Div. student at Pacific School of Religion and a member of Geyserville Christian Church, where she serves as an Elder and Moderator of the Board of Trustees. She is also a member of the CCNC-N’s Women’s Council. She lives and serves in Northern California, about an hour’s drive to Pacific School of Religion. Her undergraduate degree is in human resources, and she is part of the admin team for a small school district.

She came to seek an M.Div. at PSR in her parents’ footsteps. They raised her to value a life of service, and she has felt a pull since childhood that developed into a call to seminary. She has immersed herself and in other consortium courses and have served as Student Trustee and on the Community Life Committee. In every class, her goal is to integrate all she learns. It is how she sees her stewardship, and it is her joy. She is a daughter, mother, grandmother, and a woman called to and preparing for ministry.

LACEY SCHOLARSHIP

Katheren Hudson.jpg

Katheren is seeking her M.Div. at Pacific School of Religion. A native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and a resident of Berkeley, CA, she is a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who answered the call to the ministry more than 20 years ago. She has been blessed to serve in various outreach and pastoral roles, including minister at Tapestry Ministries (DOC) and outreach minister at the City of Refuge (UCC).

Her seminary experience has been profoundly enriching, forming her into pastoral care, public theology, and spiritual formation. These studies have enabled her to develop a theology based on radical inclusion, justice, and compassion, particularly for marginalized groups, such as women, children, the aged, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. Her experience with PSR further strengthened her passion for developing affirming worship and healing spaces. Upon graduation, Katheren will head toward a ministry empowering leaders through self-care. Her dream is to empower leaders with spiritual, emotional, and practical exercise tools so that they can take care of themselves while ministering with others.

MCCORMICK SCHOLARSHIP

Jenny Jahn (4).jpeg

In May 2025, Jenny graduated from Pacific School of Religion (PSR) with a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) and Master of Arts in Social Transformation (MAST). She has been accepted into the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) program at PSR and will begin in the Fall. Her area of study for the D.Min. is religious justice through the art of poetry. She believes that poetry is an ancient practice that has a way of capturing moments in few words that can free people’s thinking.

(PSR/M.Div./MAST graduate)

PARSONS SCHOLARSHIP

Elizabeth Fagan (1).HEIC

Elizabeth is a musician in her first year of seminary at Claremont. She lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on the edge of the national forest with her small dog, Milo. She works there as a music minister at a Disciples of Christ church and gives music lessons at the church to people of all ages in piano, voice, and guitar. She will soon begin work as a hospice volunteer and collaborating with a land-based grief service project for her region. Her intention as a chaplain is to work with people who are dying and their families. She knows that music and her studies as an Interfaith Chaplain are going to weave together, but how exactly remains a bit mysterious. She is trusting that as she continues studying, learning, and working, it will start to become more evident.

ELIZABETH FAGAN

(CST/M.Div. student)

Disciples Seminary Foundation works with partner seminaries to provide excellent education, networking, and financial support for people preparing to lead in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ.
